Research component is a compulsory component required in any MBA programme for it to be accredited by MQA. In our MBA structure, this component consists of four modules: Research Methodology, Project Management, MBA Research Project, and MBA Consultancy Project. Each carries 2 credit unit with a total of 8 units. These courses are not disparate courses but linked to each other and need to be taken sequentially.
This component is under the responsibility of the Dean with the help of other instructors. This is to ensure that all MBA research and consultancy projects would be aligned with both students’ professional development as well as the requirements of academic and industry.
Since almost all our students are practitioners (not academics) we focus more on applied research. Students would work in groups and from the outset will deliberate and decide the topic of research and consultancy they would undertake in the later Semesters. In addition to contributing to theories the research findings need to have implication to practice and the management tools or models derived from the research would be used in MBA Consultancy Project. The topic therefore needs to be of importance to practice now and in the future.
The whole Project Management Component provides a great opportunity for students to be innovative and focus on an area they are passionate about or something that would help to position themselves as having an expertise in future. The experience they gain from conducting the project would help them to be better equipped in continuing their learning journey to the next step: Doctor of Business Administration.
