MBA in Healthcare Management
Management training that leads to MQA-accredited MBA
Lectures in Kuala Lumpur over alternate weekends
Choose Part Time for 2 years (Regular) or 4 years (Extended)
Our MBA in Healthcare Management is an MQA-accredited MBA programme awarded by KPJ Healthcare University College (KPJUC). The programme aims to package our more than 30 years of experience in managing the largest Private Specialist Hospitals in Malaysia into an accredited MBA. As would be expected, the Instructors would be among Professors and Lecturers from KPJUC and other universities as well as healthcare CEOs and managers from KPJ or other Public and Private Hospitals.
Our MBA is a series of 2-day management training workshops that combines aspects of Leadership Development (20%), Project Management (20%), Corporate Management (20%) and Healthcare Management (40%). As a managerial training programme our MBA is delivered following the modified lock-step modular approach. Our students would generally be studying and focusing on one subject at a time with ample time for online or offline self and group learning in-between classes.
We focus on the kind of alumni network we aspire to have in future. We try to balance on their academic, career and family. Though we encourage our students to register for our regular Part Time 2-year programme (20 weekends a year), we allow them to opt for our extended 4-year programme (10 weekends a year). The extended programme caters for those who may be too tide with work travels or commitments and with this they would also be able to spread the tuition and fee over a longer duration.
We would want the composition of our future alumni to come from business and healthcare professionals. Hence, we admit working students coming from business and non-business background alike including, but not limited to, medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, healthcare technologists etc. This would surely enrich classroom discussions and allows our students to make sense of real practice from different perspectives and views. This is what our MBA is all about.

FAQ
Should i choose Part Time MBA24 or MBA48
At the moment we offer only Part Time weekend classes/programme.
Both MBA24 and MBA48 are Part Time weekend classes and refer to the same MQA-accredited MBA programme but students may choose to complete within 24 months or 48 months.
MBA24 is our Regular Part Time Mode where students would be attending 20 weekends of classes in a year to graduate in 2 years while MBA48 is our Extended Part Time Mode with 10 weekends of classes in a year to graduate in 4 years.
We encourage our students to register for MBA24 but if they find work and family commitment would not allow them to attend 20 weekends of classes a year we would ask them to consider MBA48. Most important is they keep learning and able to attend all classes and do all assignments planned for them.
We embrace the concept of Long-life Learning. You need to attend training, anyway, then why not attend relevant training that, over 2 years or 4 years, would award you MBA accredited by MQA.
Yes, during your study you may apply to change from Regular to Extended, vice versa. You need to inform us early so that we would adjust your new Study Plan and advise you the impact of the change before approving your application to change your study mode. This may include the new Payment Plan, Time Table, when you would graduate etc.
We understand the dynamic nature of your job, hence, we always aim to offer as much flexibility as possible in delivery of our MBA within the guidelines imposed by MQA and Ministry of Higher Education
How much does it cost
All-in Published Rate= For Malaysians RM40,000; For International RM52,000
All-in after 2020 20% Waiver = Malaysians RM32,000; International RM41,600
The total amount of tuition and fee is the same for MBA24 and MBA48 but the amount due Quarterly would be different. For instance, for intake July 2020 with Fee of RM32,000 for Malaysians, MBA24 students would be billed RM4,000/quarter (every 3 months) X 8 quarters = RM32,000 whereas MBA48 students would be billed RM2,000/quarter X 16 quarters = RM32,000.
In the event that during your study you decide to change the mode from Regular to Extended, vice versa, we would reschedule your payment plan accordingly.
Who will be teaching the courses
In general, the components of Leadership Development, Project Management, and Corporate Management would be delivered by qualified professors and lecturers from KPJ Healthcare University College or other universities while the Healthcare Management component by experienced managers or senior managers from KPJ Healthcare Group, or other Public or Private healthcare entities.
What is Modified Lock-step Modular
A modular MBA is more common in Europe where working students would come to Campus, for say, 4 weeks a Semester for accelerated classes.
Our MBA, however, follows Modified Lock-step Modular approach for weekend classes. Past experience shows that this approach fits best with busy, working students.
Briefly, class schedule would depend on the aim and nature of the courses.
1. Project Management Cluster – Module 1 with 2-day lecture in the first scheduled weekend of the semester, Module 2 with 2-day lecture in the last scheduled weekend of the Semester. During the 5-month gap between the lecturers the students would be working in group on their projects or assignments offline or online outside scheduled classes.
2. Leadership Development Cluster – Module 1 with 2-day lecture in the 2nd scheduled weekend of the semester, Module 2 with 2-day lecture in the 2nd last scheduled weekend of the Semester. During the 4-month gap between the lecturers the students would be working in group on their projects or assignments offline or online outside scheduled classes.
3. Corporate Management and Healthcare Management Clusters – Each of these course carries 2 credits – there will be 4 days each or 2 weekends. The classes are conducted in lock-step modular where students would attend and complete the courses sequentially, i.e. one course at a time. Courses are conducted on alternate weekends with free weekend gaps between classes.
For MBA24, in each of the 4 Semesters, students would take 1 course from Project Management, 1 course from Leadership Development, and 3 courses from Corporate Management and/or Healthcare Management.
For MBA 48, in odd Semesters (i.e. 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th Semesters) students would register for 1 course from Leadership Development and 1 course from Project Management) while in even Semester (e.i. 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th Semester), students would register for 3 courses from Corporate Management and/or Healthcare Management).
We do away with 14-week Semester System, which are more meant for full time students, and replace it with Modified Lock-step Modular System. With this System we simply divide 52 weeks a year into 2 Semesters. Each Semester now has 26 weekends. MBA24 students would attend 10 weekends a Semester or 20 weekends a year while MBA48 students average 5 weekends a Semester or 10 weekends a year.
With this Modular System, students would generally study one subject at a time, compared with 3 or 4 subjects a Semester in a 14-week Semester system.
How is a typical lecture day look like
Each day of lecture is called a Session. AM Session starts at 8.30 AM till 12.00 PM with tea breaks in between. A solid 2-hour Lunch Break from 12.00 PM to 2.00 PM. PM Session starts at 2.00 PM till 5.30 PM.
We provide Complementary light, healthy Lunch as well as running coffee/tea throughout the Session.
Like other training, attending our MBA is a great opportunity for students to build a solid professional networking with people representing various different parts of the industry.
How will the courses and grades be evaluated
Evaluation would depend on the nature of the courses. The components of Leadership Development and Project Management would primarily be evaluated based on Individual Assignment as well as Group projects and presentations. The component of Corporate Management and Healthcare Management would have a more balance between projects and presentations in one hand and quizzes and examinations on another.
